I often get asked ” how often do we need our boiler servicing” I reply ”every year according to the gas regs”. The most interesting reply is along the lines of oh it’s a newer one so should be ok for a few years. Now try telling that to the two recent Glowworm condensing boilers I’ve seen that haven’t been looked at for over 5 years, both have older burner seals in that have perished and the heat from burnerleaking has melted a lot of internal parts, on occasion the boilers have needed replacements. The importance on carbon monoxide alarms in houses both rented and owned is as important as a smoke alarm,many tenants and home owners I meet on my travels don’t seem to think of carbon monoxide poisoning let alone know what it is,people read about it in the news papers and they must think oh it won’t happen to me my appliance was installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Gas Flue Analyser and What The Readings Mean
So By now we all have our CPA1 qualification and are all experts in how to analyse exhaust gasses from gas appliances? NO I hear some of you thinking!
A lot of people I have spoken too since the new regulations have been enforced know how to test flue gasses using there gas flue analyser but don’t have a clue what the readings mean! To me it is far more important to understand what the readings mean as this is critical to identifying problems with appliances.
The CPA1 qualification is a bit of a joke really as they mearly teach you how to use the a machine, the qualification and assessment should focus more on the results of the test as without it, it wont improve safety (in my opinion) [Read more...]
